We Endorse-Mario DeGiorgio City Council 4th District

Note-here is our most controversial endorsement, let the blogging begin

We Endorse Mario DeGiorgio for City Council Fourth District

Mario DeGiorgio
The race for City Council in the Fourth District, representing east Yonkers, has Democrat Mario DeGiorgio running against Republican Dennis Shepherd. Independence Party candidate John Rubbo is still on the ballot, but no longer actively campaigning.
The real choice is between DeGiorgio and Shepherd —both good and qualified candidates. But we endorse DeGiorgio, and here’s why:
DeGiorgio is the people’s candidate, running as an outsider who has stated again and again in the campaign that he is not beholden to anyone. We like to hear that, and with at least three new councilmembers being elected this year, an independent and non-political voice on the council will be an asset.
DeGiorgio’s business experience would be another key addition to the City Council. His work for Kid City clothing stores, with two Yonkers locations, gives him a background in meeting a payroll and understanding the difficulties of running a business. He can use this experience to examine the business that is the City of Yonkers’ $900 million budget.
DeGiorgio has other business experience with the Chamber of Commerce and Business Improvement District (BID) in the Bronx. There has been some criticism of the fact that DeGiorgio’s work has been in the Bronx and not Yonkers, but we see it differently, and believe that this experience will help him serve on the council and work with the Yonkers Chamber and BID in the future.
DeGiorgio is a down-to-earth, “regular” guy that Yonkers needs on the City Council. Moving forward, Yonkers needs fewer politicians and more public servants. DeGiorgio fits this mold.
Shepherd has run a credible council campaign, and his work with the Hyatt Association is a positive. His two big issues —controlling taxes and encouraging development — are both issues that Yonkers needs to work on. Both Shepherd and DeGiorgio performed well in the Yonkers Rising debate held last week.
Shepherd has one strike against him that is not his fault —a non-unified Republican Party behind him. Despite support from Mayor Phil Amicone, the Yonkers GOP is deeply split between factions, some of whom don’t want the mayor’s supported candidates to win.
DeGiorgio has the support of the Democratic Party, and has the experience of running, and showing well, against term-limited Councilman Liam McLaughlin four years ago.
We endorse Mario DeGiorgio, who is running on the Democratic, Conservative and Working Families Party lines, for City Council Fourth District on November 3.

  1. Rising Times, and Dan Murphy in particular, have shown their true colors with this endorsement. Everyone knows that DiGiorgio is Nick Spano’s candidate, put up to make sure Mike has support on the council when he runs for Mayor next year. Murphy’s no dope, he sees that. I can’t believe that Murphy has jumped into bed with the Spano’s again. But Yonkers is a funny place. I honestly thought Murphy was the one guy in Yonkers who couldn’t be bought. Guess I was wrong again.

  2. Mario is the right man for the job plain and simple. Shepherd is Amicone’s puppet and will do exactly and vote exactly how Amicone wants him to. The corruption needs to end. Shepherd does not give a shit about any part of Yonkers other than McLean ave. Shepherd will lose a lot of Republican votes dues to the fact that he is in bed with Amicone.

Mario is beholden to no one and is a regular guy and concerned citizen who just wants to better the city that him and his family live in.

Mario will make a fine councilman and be a true voice of the people and turn our city around.

Mario is going to destroy Shepherd on Tuesday. It’s no longer a matter or if he will win more of a buy how much will he win.

    Go Mario!!!!!!

  3. Mario is beholden to no one? Are you kidding me? He is beholden to all the people pulling his strings behind the scenes. Shepherd has worked for the people in his district for years, not just on Mclean, he’s done things on Yonkers Avenue and Cross county as well.

Mario has a lot of people to answer to if he wins this election. Those crazy lines he got came from people who are using him as a means to an end. He didn’t get them for any other reason than being a chess piece.

He’s done no work even in this district even after running 4 years ago. Not One thing! Doesn’t see to me to be someone who has The 4th district’s interests at heart.

  4. “Winnicki, while a viable candidate, has run before for this office, and questions have been raised about his participation in between his campaigns. Larkin has more adequately distinguished himself during this time, with a deeper involvement in the issues both candidates would face on the council.”
When Mario was asked what he’s done in his district he looked up to the ceiling and said, “I GOT NOTHING…”
Shepherd could go on for hours about HIS participation in this district with & without Hyatt.
Um, Dan, isn’t that WHY you didn’t pick Ted.
YOU’RE A HACK LIKE THE REST OF THEM DAN…you and your fair & balanced board…why even bother if you can’t think for yourself…
anon is right, Mario’s got over 10 different unions he HAS to listen to!!!
I guess he has to add you to his many paybacks…

  8. a lot of shepherd support but he doesn’t deserve it just a puppet of the mayor-where’s fleming pakistan?

  9. Shepherd will do exactly as Amicone tells him too no thanks. Talk about about a puppetmaster. I would vote for anyone who is not involved with Amicone.

Shepherd is a grandstander who does nothing but take credit for stuff that Justin Tubiolo, Liam McLaughlin and Mike Spano have done over that last 4 years. Truth of the matter is Shepherd has done nothing for Yonkers either.

Mario is a nonpolitician regular citizen who trully cares about Yonkers (Not just Mclean ave). Mario has stated several times that he has made no promises to anyone, so while he has the support and endorsements of many groups he has made it clear to them that he will be an open ear but will always do what is right for Yonkers first.

Mario is a workaholic and yes his business for many years has only been in the Bronx and Manhattan as he had a family to raise and a mortgage to pay Shepherd cannot say the same). Mario has cut back on his personal business significantly and is ready to put his business expertise and negotiation skills to work and better the city where him and his family reside. (Not just clean up graffiti on his own block)

Mario is the right candidate not Amicone’s puppet

  10. Amicone and Fleming are pieces of Sh1t and they support and endorse Shepherd. Shepherd has lost my vote because of the Amicone connection. Got an automated call from Amicone asking me to endorse his friend Shepherd. Im voting for degiorgio for sure now.

  11. Can’t wait till Mario crushes this stuttering fool. Good edorsement Dan – You made a great choice

Comment by SHOULDN'T HAVE FIRED LEVY | November 3, 2009

  12. Shepherd is going down hard today and there is nothing Amicone and Tubiolo can do about it.

Nice to see Bernie Sprekman supporting Mario since he is the better candidate. Loved the mailer

    Comment by F Amicone!!!!! | November 3, 2009

  13. There is absolutely no way possible that DeGiorgio lost by 500 votes. I smell fowl play. DeGiorgio lost by less votes last time he ran when he was a nobody. The main reason i am saying this is that the Lenick/Castro Blanco race is 50/50 there is no way that the people who voted for Chuck in the 4th district did not vote for DeGiorgio and voted for Shepherd instead. Not to mention DeGiorgio off the bat also had the consevative and working family parties so he should have started up about 300 votes from the beginning.

An investigation and recount should be launched as i really feel that the mayor and his corrupt crew had something to do with this. It just does not make sense. I really want to see Lesnick and Spanos numbers in the 4th district as they should be inline with DeGiorgios. If they are not this should really be looked into.

Comment by Mario Supporter | November 6, 2009

  14. You are freaking hysterical Mario supporter. Shepherd won because people were smart and saw right through the wool that the Conservative party and the Spanos were trying to pull over their eyes.

If this makes you get through dealing with your HUGE loss…so be it. Know this though, you lost….and the right man won.

Comment by Not bitter like you | November 6, 2009

  15. Not true people hate Amicone just does not make sense. Shepherd is not the right man, he will just do whatever Amicone tells him to do. Shepherd does not give a shit about the rest of Yonkers just McLean ave. He is retired and looking for something to do so he is not bored. All he is is a sure vote for Amicone on the council.

Yonkers corrupt politcs at its finest. Great now Yonkers will only get worse than it already is.

I am a republican and I have had it with the republican party. Justin Tubiolo or Gerry Espisito would have made a much better councilman than Shepherd.

Comment by Mario Supporter | November 6, 2009

  16. If everyone in the Republican party thought that then Tubiolo or Espisito would have been in the running…

Comment by Not bitter | November 6, 2009

  17. I believe that Tubiolo couldn’t run due to his job on Wall Street, plus he was basically the unofficial Campaign Manager for Shepherd, he took him everywhere, told him what to do, and introduced him to everyone.

If he was allowed to run by his company, I doubt the Democrats would’ve even put anyone up against him.
