Morabito Update-Had a County Job But Lost It?

Here’s an update on our continued research into Robert Morabito, former Rye Supervisor who is running for Westchester County Clerk. Morabito, a Democrat, has the Republican and Conservative party lines in his race against County Clerk Tim Idoni.

Morabito, together with DA candidate Tony Castro, filed 14,0000 petitions to get into a Democratic Primary with Idoni.

We were told that Morabito currently held a county job working for Andy Spano. This is false. Morabito, after losing re-election as Rye Supervisor in 2007, was hired by Andy Spano as a Deputy Commisioner of Enviromental Facilities, a nice cushy well paying six figure job, in 2008.

At the end of 2008, Morabito was removed from his position, against his will, for reasons unknown.

Now Morabito is running for County Clerk against one of the top Democrats in the county-Tim Idoni. Is there a connection between Morabito losing his job and his run for county clerk? More research to do here, help me out

Spano-Republican Bloodbath at the Board of Elections?

Published reports have three Republican employees at the County Board of Elections being fired yesterday. They are: Steve Levy, former Nick Spano Chief of Staff and Deputy Commissioner at the BOE;  Nick’s Spano’s sister, Rosemary Gannon; and another unnamed BOE GOP employee.

Why were the 3 fired? It appears that the reason stems from the recent re-endorsement of Andy Spano by the Conservative Party, led by Chairwoman Gail Burns, who when told by Nick Spano to endorse Andy Spano, did so.

Who led the effort to boot the spano loyalists from the BOE? It appears the doing of Doug Colety, County Republican Chairman, who has been getting a lot of slack for not getting the Conservative line for Rob Astorino, and other Republican candidates.

This decision would have to have been approved by Carole Sunderland the Republican BOE Commissioner. Sunderland and Nick Spano have been close allies for decades, so this move comes as a bit of a surprise.

Next on the hitlist may be Burns herself, who currently works for Mayor Phil Amicone.

The results could be an all out Republican Civil War between the Nick Spano forces and the Colety forces. This inhouse blood bath could doom republican candidates in Westchester, and especially in Yonkers, where all Republicans on deck are needed to give Democratic candidates, who all have big enrollment edges, a competitive run.

Colety is finally being applauded for showing some chutzpah for getting some payback for Burns and Nick Spano giving Andy Spano the Conservative Line, which was given to Andy in exchange for Andy’s support for Mike Spano to be the next Mayor of Yonkers.

This also gets Colety’s 3 family jobs at the BOE off the radar for now.
