Judge Rory Bellantoni Steps Down-Why? and Where is He Headed?

- Judge Rory Bellantoni
The news late last week that acting Supreme Court Judge Rory Bellantoni was stepping down from the bench came as a complete surprise to almost everyone in Westchester. Rory Bellantoni, the son of former Judge Orazio Bellantoni, who served for 25 years, has the bench in his families blood.
Rory was first elected to the county court in 2003, and was recently made an acting Supreme Court Judge by Chief Judge Frank Nicolai to hear Civil Cases in the 9th Judicial District. Prior to this appointment, he was presiding over the sex offender court for Westchester County.
Judge Rory was taken off the sex offender court recently, after his decision to free Richard DiGuglielmo, who served 10 years in prison for shooting Charles Campbell in the Dobbs Ferry Deli case. This brave decision by Bellantoni may have resulted in his transfer to civil court, and may have a role in his decision to leave the bench.
Judge Bellantoni said his reason for leaving the bench was because Judges have not been given a pay raise for 10 years. But in an interview with Rising Media a few years ago, Bellantoni explained to this reporter that he had worked at a private law firm and earned a good income, but serving as a judge was his true love.
Things have changed in the years in between if you believe Rory’s reason for his departure.
The rumor in the county courthouse in White Plains is that Bellantoni will take a position in the law firm of Jonathan Lovett, which Lovett denied.
The other rumor is that Bellantoni has something to hide or is leaving the bench for other than financial reasons.
One of Bellantoni’s biggest fans is Westchester Guardian editor Richard Blassberg and his boss publisher Sam Zherka. What if any role this friendship played in Bellantoni’s decision is unclear.

Could his sudden departure have anything to do with the recent raid on the County Clerk’s offices by the Manhattan District Attorney Squad? It was said that they were looking into what judge(s) signed off on illegal gun permits. It was apparently part of the Zherka investigation that is being run by U.S. Marine Cpl./ADA Michael Bogdanos.
It’s clearly possible Bellantoni’s sudden resignation is in some way related to the investigation of Zherka. Zherka was a strong backer of Bellantoni, which should lead anyone to question Bellantoni’s judgment, at least.
Also, people like Zherka always have strings attached to their support.
(There is a typo in Anonymous’ post. Bogdanos has been a Colonel, not a Corporal.)
bogdanos is indeed a colonel..and was NOT in the DA’s
office when the zherka grand jury investigation was
started..he was still in Iraq demonstrating that there
could have been no conspiracy with bogdanos..Zherka’s
lawsuit is a lie ..and the federal judge now knows it
as do the rest of the public..I am surpirsed about the
aforesaid “raid” on the clerks’ office…this should
be really good…which judges did indeed sign off on
what gun permits..and was there any intermediary receiving
anything for the permit…that is the 64 thousand dollar
question
The upcoming RICO indictments might include Bellantoni’s name. He might also be included in the Manhattan D.A.”s indictments. A possible double-header. What do you think Rising Times?
We continue to hear a lot of scuttlebutt about upcoming indictments, and I myself have floated Bellantoni’s name as among the “possibles.” But if they don’t happen before the end of June, say by the 23rd, then they might not come at all. If they don’t happen, then the Feds will have wasted a ton of taxpayer money on nothing.
And a single mortgage fraud indictment relating to a Yonkers City Council member wouldn’t cut it, either. Should there be more? The circumstantial information that’s been out there so far says “yes,” there should be more results from this investigation, as well as Manhattan’s. We’ll see soon enough.
Letter dated January 9, 2009
“The State Commission on Judicial Conduct has completed its review of your letter of complaint concerning County Court Judge Rory J. Bellantoni.

It may or may not be significant that the resignation is effective on June 8, 2009 very near the 5-month anniversary of this letter.
this guy made the wheels of justice move Rory was very brave!
